Memphis District
Lower Mississippi & White River IENC Feature Mapping & Update
SEAS has collected imagery on the Lower Mississippi River and White River for Memphis District Army Corps of Engineers for an IENC feature update. SEAS developed & implemented an ArcGIS application add-in for mapping & verification of existing navigational charts. This set of GIS tools simultaneously displays the survey image (collected by SEAS proprietary Imagine Mapping System) and navigational chart data that has been acquired in the field. These tools allow the user to digitize and create 3D positions from the oblique images to add new features to the GIS or create comparison records of existing chart features. The add-in is linked to a Geodatabase so comparisons and new features are automatically stored. When comparison records are created, a user selected photo, a screen capture of the displayed objects from the map window, and XYZ comparison values are stored. Three routines have been also developed for calculating vertical clearances, digitizing shoreline, and drawing Cell (circular) features. The application can be setup to work from online images or images hosted locally based on the client/user preferences.
